So how definition of propriety has changed. On melody queen Lata Mangeshekar's 80th birthday Newspapers carried her interview. Perhaps for the first time she revealed that she did not like singing songs which in her views were vulgar. For Raj Kapoor's Sangam, she refused to sing the popular song 'kya karoon Ram, mujhe buddha mil gaya'. It was only after Raj Kapoor convinced her that there will be no obscenity and more so the song is for a married lady who is out to seduce her husband, she agreed. More so, she says, she had great regards for the Director-actor. But somewhere in her heart she could not reconcile and she tells now that she did not see the film.
In contrast let us hear what great Lyricist & Writer GULZAR has to say about his latest film Kaminey. In an interview he says "The word kaminey is not a bad word per se, it is also a word of affection.........."
So next time you meet a relative or a friend, do not hesitate to call him/her "kaminey or kaminee...."
